สำนวน

To be destined to + กริยา หมายถึง ถูกลิขิตหรือถูกกำหนดโชคชะตาให้เป็นหรือทำแบบนั้น เช่น

He is destined to be a supermodel.

= เขาถูกลิขิตมาให้เป็นซุปตาร์

She is destined to be a famous doctor.

= หล่อนถูกลิขิตมาให้เป็นหมอที่มีชื่อเสียง

That businessman is destined to be a tycoon.

= นักธุรกิจคนนั้นถูกลิขิตมาให้เป็นนักธุรกิจที่มั่งคั่ง

We are destined to be single.

= เราถูกลิขิตมาให้เป็นโสด

They were destined never to meet again.

= พวกเขาถูกลิขิตมาให้ไม่ให้เจอกันอีก

We believed that our son was destined to be a monk.

= เราเชื่อว่า ลูกชายถูกลิขิตมาให้บวชเป็นพระ

หรือถ้าใช้กับสถานที่ใดสถานที่หนึ่ง จะหมายถึง มีหมายกำหนดการที่จะไปที่นั้น หรือ มุ่งหน้าสู่ เช่น

= เที่ยวบินนี้กำหนดจะเดินทางไปภูเก็ต

คำนามคือ destiny หมายถึง โชคชะตา

เช่น

= เธอเชื่อว่ามันเป็นโชคชะตาของเธอที่แต่งงานกับคนไม่ดี

= การเป็นพระเป็นสิ่งที่ฟ้ากำหนดมาแล้ว

I feel that I need to make a choice.

= ฉันคิดว่าฉันต้องเลือกแล้ว

We have a lot of important choices to make.

= เรามีเรื่องสำคัญที่ต้องเลือกมากมาย

You have made a good choice.

= เธอเลือกเก่งมาก

สำนวน to have no choice = ไม่มีทางเลือก = to have no alternative

I have no choice. = I have no alternative.

= ฉันไม่มีทางเลือก

I think I have no choice but to quit the job.

= ฉันคิดว่าฉันไม่มีทางเลือกนอกจากลาออกจากงาน
