คำว่า point มีหลากหลายความหมาย ความหมายที่น่าสนใจคือ ประเด็น เช่น

To come to a point หรือ to get to the point หมายถึง เข้าที่ประเด็น หรือพูดถึงสิ่งที่สำคัญ เช่น

Let’s get to the point because we don’t have much time.

= เรามาเข้าประเด็นกันเลยเพราะไม่มีเวลามาก

แต่ถ้าเราไปเจอสำนวน to get the point = หมายถึง เข้าใจประเด็น to miss the point = พลาดประเด็น to have a point = มีประเด็น เช่น

You have missed the point. = คุณไม่เข้าใจประเด็น (หลงประเด็น)

She has got the point. = หล่อนเข้าใจประเด็น

That’s not the point. = นั่นไม่ใช่ประเด็น

I got her point. = ฉันเข้าใจสิ่งที่เธอสื่อ (ฉันเข้าใจประเด็นของหล่อน)

You got my point. = คุณเข้าใจประเด็นของฉัน (คุณเข้าใจสิ่งที่ฉันต้องสื่อ)

You don’t get the point. = คุณไม่เข้าใจสิ่งที่ฉันต้องการสื่อ

The point is that…. หมายถึง ประเด็นก็คือ หรือสิ่งที่สำคัญก็คือ

The point is that you are irresponsible.

= ประเด็นก็คือ คุณไม่รับผิดชอบ

The point is that she is late. = ประเด็นก็คือ หล่อนมาสาย

What’s the point of + กริยา ing หมายถึง ประเด็นหรือประโยชน์ของการทำสิ่งใดสิ่งหนึ่งเช่น

= จะไปกินข้าวนอกบ้านทำไม

We are going to be laid off for sure. What’s the point of working hard?

= เราโดนปลดออกจากงานแน่ๆ แล้วจะไปทุ่มเททำไม
