Time เวลา

Time is free, but it’s priceless.

You can’t own it, but you can use it.

You can’t keep it, but you can spend it.

Once you’ve lost it, you can never get it back.

เวลาไม่ต้องใช้เงินซื้อแต่หาค่าไม่ได้

ครอบครองไม่ได้แต่ใช้ประโยชน์ได้

เก็บไว้ไม่ได้แต่ใช้สอยได้

แต่เมื่อเสียไปแล้ว เอากลับคืนมาไม่ได้

สำนวน

คำว่า time เป็นได้ทั้งคำนามนับได้และนับไม่ได้ เช่น

What time do you have? = เวลากี่โมงแล้ว

I don’t have time for dinner with you this evening.

= ฉันไม่มีเวลาไปทานอาหารกับคุณเย็นนี้

We don’t have to rush. We have plenty of time.

= เราไม่จำเป็นต้องรีบ เรามีเวลาเหลือเฟือ

I will visit you if I have free time.

= ฉันจะเยี่ยมถ้ามีเวลาว่าง

I won’t waste my valuable time talking nonsense.

= ฉันจะไม่เสียเวลาที่มีค่ามาพูดเรื่องไร้สาระ

To make time / to find time หาเวลา เช่น

I will make time to talk to you.

= ฉันจะหาเวลามาคุยกับคุณ

Dad tries to find time to travel.

= พ่อหาเวลาไปท่องเที่ยว

สำนวน Time goes by. เวลาผ่านไป

Don’t worry! Things will get better as time goes by.

= ไม่ต้องห่วง สิ่งต่างๆจะดีขึ้นเมื่อเวลาผ่านไป

 Our business got better as time went by.

= ธุรกิจเราดีขึ้นเมื่อเวลาผ่านไป

สำนวน Time runs out. เวลาหมด เช่น

Hurry up! Time is running out.

= รีบๆเข้า เวลาจะหมดแล้ว

และ Time’s up. หมายถึง เวลาหมดแล้ว เอาไว้ใช้พูดเวลามีการแข่งขัน การสอบ เช่น

Time’s up. Put down your pen.

= เวลาหมดแล้ว วางปากกาได้แล้ว

Time’s up. =เวลาหมดแล้ว

The first time I saw her, I loved her.

= ครั้งแรกที่เห็นหล่อน ก็รักเลย

เมื่อเป็นคำนามนับได้หมายถึง ครั้ง เช่น

How many times have I told you that I don’t like it?

= บอกกี่ครั้งแล้วว่าฉันไม่ชอบ

How many times have you taken the test?

= คุณสอบมากี่ครั้งแล้ว
