คำว่า distance อ่านว่า (ดิส) เติ่นส์ หมายถึง ระยาทาง เช่น

= ระยะทางระหว่างกรุงเทพกับพัทยาเท่าไร เรามักจะใช้ว่า How far is it from Bangkok to Pattaya? มากกว่า เพราะง่ายกว่า
คำว่า distance ที่มักเจอบ่อยๆก็คือ
within (easy) walking distance
= อยู่ใกล้มากแบบเดินถึง เช่น
The shopping malls and the hospitals are within walking distance.
= ห้างและโรงพยาบาลอยู่ใกล้แบบเดินถึง
Our hotel is located in the best location. Shopping malls , public transportation and restaurants are within walking distance.
= โรงแรมของเราตั้งอยู่ในทำเลที่ยอดเยี่ยม ห้าง ขนส่งสาธารณะ และร้านอาหารเดินถึงหมด
และ หากต้องการจะบรรยายว่า สถานที่ใดอยู่ในระยะที่ขับรถถึงก็ใช้ว่า within driving distance
Within traveling distance = อยู่ในระยะที่เดินทางไปได้ within commuting distance = อยู่ระยะที่เดินทางไปกลับได้
My house is within walking distance of the mall.
= บ้านฉันระยะห่างจากห้างแค่เดินถึง (ใกล้มาก)
The resort is within walking distance of the sea.
= รีสอร์ทนี้อยู่ห่างจากทะเลแต่เดินถึง (ใกล้มาก)
สำนวนที่เรามีโอกาสเจออีกก็คือ from a distance (จากระยะไกล) at a distance (ที่ระยะไกล) หรือ in the distance ในระยะไกล เช่น
Mom watches her kids from a distance.
= แม่เฝ้าดูลูกอยู่ห่างๆ
I can hear your voice from a distance.
= ฉันได้ยินเสียงเธอมาแต่ไกล
We can see the skyscraper in the distance.
= เราสามารถเห็นตึกระฟ้าในระยะไกลโน่น
สำนวน to travel a great/long distance = เดินทางไกล
เช่น
I love traveling a long distance because it is enjoyable. = ฉันชอบเดินทางท่องเที่ยวไปไกลๆเพราะมันเพลินดี
In rural areas, children have to travel long distances to school.
= ในชนบท นักเรียนต้องเดินทางไกลมากไปโรงเรียน
และสำนวน to keep someone’s distance หมายถึง ทิ้งระยะห่างไว้ อย่าเข้าไปใกล้ เพราะมีอันตราย เช่น

Tourists are told to keep their distance from the tigers.

และสำนวน to distance oneself from + สิ่งใดสิ่งหนึ่ง หมายถึง อยู่ให้ห่างจากสิ่งนั้น หรือทำให้ห่างเหิน เช่น
You should distance from her or you will be in trouble. = คุณควรอยู่ให้ห่างจากหล่อน ไม่อย่างนั้น จะเดือดร้อน
Don’t call me by the last name. It will distance yourself from me.
