I am afraid that he will not go with us.
= ฉันเกรงว่าเขาจะไม่ไปด้วย
คำนามของ afraid ไม่มี ส่วนคำว่า fear เป็นคำที่เป็นได้ทั้งคำนาม กริยา เช่น
There is no need to fear.
= ไม่เห็นจะต้องกลัวอะไรเลย
Never fear! I am here.
= มีฉันอยู่ ไม่ต้องกลัว
Never fear! He will protect you.
= ไม่ต้องกลัว เขาจะดูแลเธอเอง
He spoke with fear.
= เขาพูดด้วยความหวาดกลัว
We try to overcome our fear of losing our job.

= เขาทำทุกอย่างที่ทำได้เพราะกลัวว่าจะสูญเสียเธอไป
He did everything he could for fear of losing her.
He didn’t say anything for fear that he would lose his job. = เขาไม่พูดอะไรเพราะกลัวว่าจะตกงาน = He didn’t say anything for fear of losing his job.
