To be about = เกี่ยวกับ เช่น
The book is about history.
= หนังสือเล่มนี้เกี่ยวกับประวัติศาสตร์
คำว่า to compete หมายถึง แข่งขัน ตามด้วย against กับใครหรือสิ่งใด จะใช้ with ก็ได้ อันหลังตรงกับภาษาไทยมากกว่า แต่หากต้องการจะบอกว่า แข่งขันเพื่ออะไร ก็ใช้ for ไปตามนั้น เช่น
The local firm must adjust itself to be able to compete with / against the global firm.
=บริษัทในประเทศต้องปรับตัวเพื่อที่จะสามารถแข่งขันกับบริษัทระดับโลกได้
It is difficult for a small shop to compete with / against the big supermarkets.
= ยากนะที่ร้านเล็กๆจะแข่งขันกับซุบเปอร์มาร์เก็ตขนาดใหญ่ได้

สำนวน Make sure (that) S + V หมายถึง ตรวจดูให้แน่ใจนะว่า.... เช่น

=ตรวจดูให้แน่ใจว่าเขาไม่เป็นอะไรนะ

= ตรวจดูให้แน่ใจว่าใส่กุญแจประตูแล้ว

=ตรวจดูให้แน่ใจว่าสามารถทำโครงการให้ลุล่วงได้นะ

= โทรมาเพื่อตรวจดูให้แน่ใจว่าถึงบ้านปลอดภัย

= เขาเดินไปส่งเธอที่บ้านทุกวันเพื่อตรวจดูให้แน่ใจว่า เธอปลอดภัย

โครงสร้างว่า to be meant to V = ถูกสร้างมาเพื่อ หรือมีเจตนาที่จะ เช่น

= โทรศัพท์อัจฉริยะถูกทำมาเพื่อให้ความบันเทิงกับผู้ใช้
New Year’s Day is meant to bring people together.
= วันปีใหม่มีเจตนาเพื่อให้คนมาอยู่ด้วยกัน

= รถเข็นถูกสร้างมาเพื่อช่วยคนไข้ที่ช่วยตัวเองไม่ได้
